Glory In Making...

Kirti stood there gazing at the moon and her eyes brimming with tears. She worked as a domestic help at the Kapoor’s. A domestic help… that meant no freedom, no education… in short, no life!
She had always thought that her master was a good man. That night was different. He returned home, completely drunk! When all the others in the family had slept, Mr. Kapoor entered Kirti’s room and had sexually assaulted her!
What did I do to deserve such a fate? My mother deserted me when I was four and ever since then I have been struggling… for a living, for a respectable life. They say my mom was a prostitute and call her names. I never wanted to be someone like her and hence, I ran away from all of them. And today again I am at one such juncture in my life… I am being forced in to something that I know will ruin my life forever! Help me lord… and tell me, do you think I deserve this?’ she cried giving rise to a million other questions inside her.
She was sure of at least one thing… she was not weak. She was a fighter!
The wind started to blow and the dark clouds made way for the moon to appear. She raised her head to see the moon beaming and smiling at her. She remained perplexed for the next few minutes, unsure of what these signals meant.
Suddenly she felt a comforting touch on her shoulder. The old lady sat next to Kirti and asked her the reason behind her tears. Kirti told her everything that she witnessed and felt. The old lady patiently listened to everything and she hugged the little girl.
What is your name my child?’ the old lady enquired.

‘My problem is much bigger right now that these silly things like my name… can you please help me? Anyway, my name is Kirti she said feeling irritated and traumatized.

‘Kirti means glory… and there will be a day when the whole world will know you. You are hurt, I understand. But I know you are not weak. Life means struggle… each one of us face it at one point or the other. And trust me, every problem has a solution and your problem has its own.’

The old lady took Kirti with her to the little home that she ran for homeless children. Kirti found a new home where she was made to study, to learn other vocational activities which would help her in future.
At times when she felt low and lonely, she would walk to the same place and would gaze at the moon and see moon would be back smiling at her. Kirti had found a new life for herself; she knew it that she would make it big one day! She promised to herself that she would prove everyone wrong who said that a prostitute’s daughter would have to be a prostitute herself. Glory in making!

You deserve something better...

One day when Adriana was returning from college, she saw her best friend Angela talking to a few guys, who later handed over a few packets to her in return of huge amount of money!

"Angela... wait..." she screamed. She saw her running frantically, trying to avoid talking to her.

"Stop running Angela and listen to me."
Angela stopped. Adriana caught hold of her hands and snatched away those packets from her...

"What are you up to? And what are these packets? What is it Angela? Will you explain?"
After remaining silent for nearly a minute...Angela gathered the guts to speak...

"Look Adriana...I just don't need to explain all this to you... But anyways, as you see...these packets contain drugs!", Angela said, trying to free herself away from Adriana.

Adriana walked back home... she had her mind crowded with thoughts about Angela...

TWO MONTHS LATER

Adriana hears a beep. Text message.

"Come soon... there isn't much left!"...it said.

Twenty minutes later... Adriana was sniffing...smoking... She was not a part of this world anymore!
Drugs ruled her life... Adriana had slowly given into it. She hailed from a middle-class family...she had two younger brothers... no elder siblings.

A few days later, Adriana's younger brother caught her taking drugs! She was taken for counsellings...but no help. Her mom took the last resort... she was sent to the Rehab  Centre!

Six Months Later

Adriana was strolling around when she saw her neighbour's daughter running towards four guys who had that same dreadful thing in their hands... She stood there silently for a minute... her past started to play hide and seek with her! She could not see someone else live her past in front of her own eyes!

She ran to the girl, brought her home... showed her the pictures of her past... her life... as a drug addict... She told her about her life at the rehab... how difficult it was to get out of all that mess...

With this she had saved a life...

There are many others who give in to all this... drugs! Their reasons might be different... some for peer pressure, some for the sake of fun... some may be to run away from their problems...

It might cost them a few grands to buy it and enjoy it...but it truly costs a lifetime...it costs a lifetime for their family and friends! The pleasure they get from those drugs might last for a few hours... But the damage it does to them, their family and friends lasts for a long time...

P.S.: Quit drugs guys... this is my humble request to all those who have gone for it... its the weakest way out... If you're facing a difficulty (whatever it might be)... drugs is the weakest way! Please... stop killing yourself... you deserve a better life!!

They Said YES!!!

He woke me up that morning! Just the night before I had cried...cried like never before... cried so much that the whole of the town could drown in my tears!

I could hardly open my eyes since the curtains were drawn out and the sun peeped straight on to my face! Phew!
Why is it that I cried last night because of the two souls I cherish the most? Why is it that they could see me crying and still do nothing? Why?

Anyways, I saw him standing right in front of me, winking! I gave him a short and sweet smile and tried to drag myself out of this cozy bed. He leaned on the bed, came close to me and whispered something in my ears...
I jumped out of the bed... stood there for a minute...shocked!!! I don't know how he did it! How??? How was this possible...that too in such a short span of time!!!

He pinched me to bring me to my senses!!!
He had a big grin on his face and I had a bigger one! :D

I hugged him... hugged him tighter, hugged him in a way that he would never be able to forget this hug!
He said..."They said YES!"

I could not believe that they have approved of this after last night that was full of arguments and resentments...
I hugged him once again and whispered - "Thank you bro! It is because of you that I am going abroad to continue my studies! Thank you so much! I love you..."

LOVE IS ALL THEY NEED...

A day when I fail to remember
Love that you all gave me
Zealously I pray, let it never happen
Hear my cries oh lord, hear me
Ever if it happens
I may please be forgiven
My memories have deserted me
Every moment it might be painful
Read my love for you in my eyes
Sadness is what they might speak

"I rushed to show this piece of paper to my mom! I somehow knew who's handwriting it was... my grandmother's!
"Mom, I saw this diary in my closet... went through a few pages and see what I saw."

My mom glanced through the pages. I was right! It was my grandmother's diary.
"Oh dear! I feel so sorry for her. May be she knew what was going to happen to her and hence, she wrote this."

I could see the tears in my mom's eyes.

My grandmother was a very cheerful lady...ever smiling! She always enjoyed meeting new people, talking to them, spreading smiles everywhere she went.
Suddenly she had started keeping to herself... she did not come out with us anywhere we went. She even stopped talking to me!

That afternoon when I came back from my school, she saw me through the door and refused to recognise me! At first I thought that she was joking, but later on I was told that she was not. In a few days' time, she stopped recognising everyone around and had started withdrawing herself from everything and everyone around.

After a few months, she became bed-ridden! She could not walk... out of fear she threw away the food I got for her. She spoke of the things unknown to us, may be something unknown to her as well. I always got angry on her whenever she did such strange things. I seldom could stop myself from shouting on her!
Today, she is no more...
Today when I read what she wrote a few years' back, it makes me feel guilty for what I did to her! She could do nothing but had to give in to that remorseful fate of hers.

Sorry Grandma, I know you are listening to my cries tonight.
Will you ever forgive me for what I did, ever?"

And with this, she closed her diary... A tear fell on the last word she wrote. She was not sure whether that word had been wiped off by the tear that fell on it, but she knew that these words would have been heard by her grandmom and would have been forever etched in heart!

P.S.: I saw a post on the aged people affected by the Alzheimer's disease in a post at Leo's blog Conjuring Kreativity! My heart goes out to all those affected by Alzheimer's. I urge all their friends and relatives to treat them with love and compassion because these patients hardly know what they are doing, unlike us who are very much aware of our actions.
